Abdul Qader Arnaout

Artist Abdul Qader Arnaout was born in Damascus, Syria in 1936. He obtained his high school diploma from Asaad Abdullah School, and one of his school friends was Marwan kassab Bashi. His family had limited financial resources, which prompted him to enter the working life after completing his high school studies in Damascus. He worked as an employee in the Directorate of Statistics and Planning and the Ministry of Culture. In 1963, he was sent by the Syrian Ministry of Culture to the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome to study advertising and decoration. The artist graduated from the academy in 1967. He was sent again in 1972, but this time to France, to continue studying advertising at the National School of Decorative Arts and then obtain a diploma in visual communications. In 1973, he conducted additional studies at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. The artist was interested in drawing and writing poetry in Arabic and English and learned many languages ​​such as Japanese, Polish and French. He also created various types of modern Arabic calligraphy styles that are still used today.
