Azza Hayder
Azza Haider is a painter and fashion designer who was born in Damascus, where she still lives today. She studied at the Esmod Fashion University and the Russian Cultural Centre.
Haider’s art is inspired by nature, taking the form of delicate, fragile examples of the natural world, brought to life in watercolours, from a single, delicately crafted flower in a vase to blossom caught on a breeze and silhouetted trees swaying in the wind. Often understated, in muted hues, her pieces sometimes incorporate a flash of colour, perhaps vibrant yellow petals or, more ominously, splashes of red, blood like, reminding us that she initially sought solace in nature, as well as finding it a source of inspiration, when the Syrian war began.
Haider held her first solo art exhibition in 2006 at Albal Gallery, Damascus and went on to have many more in her homeland. She presented her work for the first time in Lebanon in 2015 at the JABAL (Jeunes Artistes des Beaux-Arts du Liban) Exhibition, Saint George Hotel, Beirut, with other shows following. Since then, her work has been shown extensively in Syria, the UAE and Lebanon, including featuring in Artscoops’ online auctions.
